Velocity in Tableau Conference 2017
For the first time, a Velocity staff member (Javier Valderrama) was invited to participate as a speaker at the annual event Tableau Conference 2017. More than 1500 Tableau customers, users and subject matter experts attended from all over the world. The event took place October 9-13 at the Conference Center of the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.
The Tableau Conference is a series of 400 education sessions, specialization courses, hackathons, and keynotes for professionals that are passionate about data analytics and the Tableau suite of products. Velocity Partners had the pleasure of hosting one of the sessions, along with Mario Guzzi (Dev Manager of Tableau):
Data and back again: Lessons from shipping web data connectors
Want to create high-quality Web Data Connectors? Want to learn how Tableau developers do it? Join this session! In this presentation the team behind Tableau’s first-class WDCs will share what they’ve learned through two years of releasing WDCs to production: which tools they use, the most critical phases to consider, and the rabbit holes they’ve found along the way.
where Javier and Mario shared the experience and knowledge gained by our team over the last 2.5 years developing Web Data Connectors for Tableau. Our talk had more than 100 attendees (about 1% of the daily flow of visitors) whose participation and acceptance was quite high (we had 3.7 points out of 5 in the attendee survey). We still have a lot to learn and improve, but a huge step was taken to be the first vendor to be invited to present at the Tableau Conference!
The task of preparing a 50-minute presentation entirely in English for a mainly US public with high technical knowledge was extremely challenging and difficult, and thanks to the help of speaker coaching sessions by Tableau and content development with Mario Guzzi we managed to carry out this presentation very well. So, we hope to have this opportunity again next year. 😊
As a side note, the balance of the team (Guillermo Estevez, Luciana Gomez, Adelquis Trinidad, Ángel Lubenov, Rodrigo Berlochi, Sebastián Blasetti, Guillermo Cejas) were not able to attend with Javier, but were able to see the recorded version.
Thanks and Congrats Javier!
